I’ve worked such a great deal with the amazing team at Outland Armour, I asked for each of them to write a little about their character as give us all a little more information on themselves.
Let me present you with Laura Vaughn, AKA Laurilye Hutchinson
Laurilye Hutchinson is the steampunk alter ego of member Laura Vaughn, the rough and tumble gun-toting explosives technician on the H.M.S. Amaranth. Laurilye started life as a middle-class girl outside Cardiff, Wales, where her father worked on experimental devices for the government, including explosives. Her childhood was a constant battle between time in her father’s workshop and her mother’s parlor, where Laurilye was expected to practice her more ladylike skills. She left home at a young age to escape an unwanted marriage and soon found herself working in the coal mines north of Cardiff, where her skill with explosives made her an asset. After several years of backbreaking work, a mining accident left her with a missing hand and a broken soul. She headed for London, in the hopes of better job opportunities. Unfortunately, she found that even the big city had little to offer a woman in her condition in the way of honest work, so she had little choice but to embrace a dishonest life instead. Besides, a thief who can blow things up can go a long way if she plays her cards right… She became acquainted with Vincent Dantes soon after her arrival in London, and he was instantly inspired to create a new and more suitable hand for her; one with bullets in the place of fingers.
In real life, Laura is the events coordinator and de facto secretary of Outland Armour. She organizes incoming emails, plans convention tours, and runs the website, in addition to working as a seamstress and accessory designer for the company.
