Let me present you with Lindsay , AKA Miss Mariela White

Miss Mariela White is the name of my character. A runaway from aristocratic society, Mariela has joined a pirate crew to escape society norms for good. Miss Mariela is the Amaranth’s electrician and Tesla engineer. She’s girly and spunky, but loves getting the dirty work to do. Keeping her upscale past a secret is of utmost importance in order to blend in with her new and off beat lifestyle. Mariela is a character who has become a very important part of me. She is a reincarnation of my own self and someone I aspire to be. Escaping the mundane is what Mariela is all about, and I every time I put on Mariela’s gear, I feel like I am doing just that! As a part of Outland Armour, I do mostly seamstress work, but I guess you can say I’m a props mistress in training!

Let me present you with Laura Vaughn, AKA Laurilye Hutchinson

Laurilye Hutchinson is the steampunk alter ego of member Laura Vaughn, the rough and tumble gun-toting explosives technician on the H.M.S. Amaranth. Laurilye started life as a middle-class girl outside Cardiff, Wales, where her father worked on experimental devices for the government, including explosives. Her childhood was a constant battle between time in her father’s workshop and her mother’s parlor, where Laurilye was expected to practice her more ladylike skills. She left home at a young age to escape an unwanted marriage and soon found herself working in the coal mines north of Cardiff, where her skill with explosives made her an asset. After several years of backbreaking work, a mining accident left her with a missing hand and a broken soul. She headed for London, in the hopes of better job opportunities. Unfortunately, she found that even the big city had little to offer a woman in her condition in the way of honest work, so she had little choice but to embrace a dishonest life instead. Besides, a thief who can blow things up can go a long way if she plays her cards right… She became acquainted with Vincent Dantes soon after her arrival in London, and he was instantly inspired to create a new and more suitable hand for her; one with bullets in the place of fingers.

In real life, Laura is the events coordinator and de facto secretary of Outland Armour. She organizes incoming emails, plans convention tours, and runs the website, in addition to working as a seamstress and accessory designer for the company.

Last year at Anime Weekend Atlanta I ran into the most delightful group of talented individuals. I must say, I’ve always been fascinated with the steam punk aesthetic but I’ve found trying to find people who practice this very unique form of costume design is quite difficult indeed. However, during Anime Weekend Atlanta I had the pleasure of speaking with a representative from Outland Armour and after exchanging cards the rest is basically history. After a number of months of planning, I was able to arrange to meet with them at one of my commonly used locations.

It was a very cold and cloudy afternoon, but I’m still quite pleased with all the results.

Ama was the first lovely lady that really caught my eye. I know it’s more silly then anything else but I’ve always had a fondness for wings and to see them realized in a steampunk fashion, I must say I was sold completely. The technical bits that I learned after the fact was that the wings aren’t intended for flight at all. They are actually transmission devices.

Where do you even begin with Laurilye? She was the stoic leader of this rag-tag bunch of intellectuals on this adventure. Frightfully prepared for any situation, she was easily prepared to overcome any obstacle be it a complicated machine or an army.

One other very special member of the team was Mariela. Quick to smile and able to resolve nearly all of the electrical problems she was quite suited to be the lead electrician and Tesla engineer for the crew. Her willingness to climb every wall if only to see the other side was quite inspirational.

One of the most important members of this crew not to be left from this adventure was Pandora. She was the navigator for the crew.
