As you might have suspected, I have a fondness for abandoned buildings/homes. Late last year I happened upon this little gem in my travels and though it’d be a fantastic spot to take advantage of this summer. Below is some of my re-processed scouting shots for your review!

It would be best to being by saying that my wife never dreamed that she would end up marrying a photographer. It’s not that Nicole has anything against photographers, it’s more that she’s spent most of her life doing her best to avoid cameras in general. So, of course, she had to go and marry one just to prove that it can be done.

Like most brides, she really wanted her 15 minutes in the spot light with a gorgeous dress while surrounded by our friends and family. The big thing was that we were both quite budget conscious and didn’t want the horrendous price tag typically associated with weddings. (That and she knew, given the chance, I’d be halting the ceremony every so often to capture my special day with my soon to be wife.)

After a great deal of discussion, we both decided the easiest solution for us was a destination wedding where everything would be taken care of; including a photographer. For me, that was a hard concession to make but I knew my lovely wife Nicole was right when she said the day was about us and I simply couldn’t be in two places at once regardless of my desire to do so.

In the end, we decided on a Las Vegas Wedding. We even watched the “Hangover” to be certain we knew how to NOT do the whole affair.

While it was true, not everyone could join us on our joyous day, we still were surrounded by many of our closest friends and family. After the ceremony, Nicole was kind enough to entertain me by running around the Las Vegas strip to allow me to get some amazing shots of my beautiful wife. Las Vegas Weddings may not be for everyone; but we were both quite happy to take advantage of the opportunity for our day.

And, of course, Nicole managed to get her 15 minutes in the spot light. I will say though, she’ll always remain in the spot light in my heart.

Here at Dim Horizon Studio we tend to be busy. We mean really… really… busy. We’re always running around shooting, editing, or generally finding a way to slowly take over the world with our distinct style. What this ultimately means is that our time is quite valuable and especially moments spent with our amazing clients.

1: Communicate

As a business model, we aim to be as flexible as possible with all our clients. The only way to effectively enable this is for our You(our clients) to communicate with us. By communicate I mean: send emails, talk, txt, signal flares, anything to enable us to know your needs, desires, and even problems.

2: Honesty

Honesty is a key part of everything Dim Horizon Studio is involved in. Every image is composed and taken with the honest intention to capture the client desires. If the client isn’t honest and doesn’t follow Rule 1 about their desires, Dim Horizon Studio can’t meet those expectations and blow past them. We are trying to brush up on our mind reading and Jedi training but given we seriously spend too much time shooting to give either of those disciplines justice.

3: Respect

Dim Horizon Studio doesn’t abide by any disrespect of our previous clients, current clients, or anyone in between. It’s impossible to capture a beautiful moment when it’s tainted by bad intentions, demeaning comments, or a general desire to derail a situation. If you’re not comfortable, refer to Rule 1 and Rule 2 we’ll be happy to eliminate those issues.

4: Punctuality

It’s an age old saying, but it’s worth repeating. Time is money. When Dim Horizon Studio commits to a shoot, the expectation has been made that we’ll be there ready to go. The same goes for our clients once a commitment has been made. If something comes up, again, refer to Rules 1, Rule 2, and Rule 3 and ultimately there is no reason anything can’t be resolved in a mutual beneficial manner.

This past St. Patrick’s Day ended up being quite a busy and fantastic day spent in Woodstock. I should say this with the point that I’m trying to get more involved in local shows; and after finding out about this event I thought it’d be a great environment for myself as a local artist.

Ultimately my goal for the day was to sell a little work (as always), but also showcase some of my new HDR work. In additional to all that also show off a magnificent canvas print of one of my bioshock pieces. My most popular piece of the day was this one:

I have to say, I was a little surprised by the general response to the work. While, I’ll freely admit, I love the shot, I had more individuals and couples walk up quickly to ask if it was some location I had never heard of. While I’m somewhat used to this response, what was surprising was that not a single person/couple said the same place. Each had someplace entirely different with their own unique story that they shared, and always had a smile when they looked at my shot.

I really have to say it’s always really such a pleasure to have individuals identify with my work as intimately as so many did that day and share their story with me.

The rest of the day though was just delightful. The weather, sales, and also getting to spend the day with so many talented artists was simply inspiring. I really didn’t get that many shots during the day, but I was able to take a few. Enjoy and thank you again to all that came by!
